You don’t have to read to your kids at bedtime

I know, I know - but hear me out.

The moms I work with are drowning in “supposed to” culture. “They’re supposed to be in bed by eight.” “I’m supposed to stay calm when they’re upset.” It’s too much. We are drowning in the social expectations of motherhood, and it’s getting in the way of us parenting the way we want to parent.

It’s important to read to your kids. Trust me - I’m a book lover, and this is a top priority for me. But does it HAVE to be at bedtime? Are you exhausted at bedtime? Are your kids Master Stallers who make the bedtime routine last three hours? Would reading be more enjoyable at another time of day, like afternoon snack or early mornings?

Then do that. Change it up. Don’t let societal messages dictate what works best for YOUR family.

Read whenever you want, moms. You’re doing great.
